Learning to write is an important skill to cultivate; however, most children will not jump for joy when presented with tons of tracing pages. We get it. Our goal is not to bore children at the stage of education that is the most fun.

Instead, we help teachers, tutors, and homeschooling parents, by creating activity printables that are colorful yet minimal and engaging yet practical.  We hope you find what you are looking here.

Number Tracing Practice Sheets { 1-10}

Learners can use this sheet to trace numbers 1-10 and use the last column to practice writing the number on their own.

Learners can use this trace and match worksheet to trace the numerical number and match it to the written number.

Number Recognition

When children can name and identify numbers in order and out of order, they have mastered number recognition. To help with this process, several number activities can be used to reinforce number learning.

  • Introduce the number to the child in physical forms that the child can touch and manipulate; wooden blocks, magnets, and puzzle pieces work great.
  • Begin showing the child where the numbers show up in their organic environments; food products, pictures and papers around the home, and when out and about.
  • Introduce number books. The public library is a great source of free books and here you’ll find other ways to access free and cheap books.
  • Large calendars on display centrally in the home.

How to Make Learning Numbers Practical and Useful for Children?

Helping children learn their numbers is a journey that requires repetition. I’ve found that using numbers in practical and natural ways is a great way to begin.

What do I mean by practical ways?

  • We ask our children their age and use number magnets on the refrigerator for them to point to the correct number.
  • We ask our children how many of something (snacks, toys, blocks) they would like and follow with questions about how may they have and what number it is on the number mat.
  • We use the interests of our children to talk about numbers. For example, I have a child who loves Paw Patrol. I created a simple sheet with squares and numbers, nothing fancy, it can be quickly drawn. I placed the toys in each square to demonstrate numbers and practice counting. He thought we were playing.

When lessons are useful and hands-on, they are learned more quickly.

The goal of these tracing numbers worksheets is to introduce a quick and fun way to engage children with number practice. I recommend working on 1-3 numbers for a set interval of time before introducing more number worksheets.

Happy Writing!
