Places to find cute and affordable maternity clothes

Related:

I spent my pre-pregnancy life pretty with very few curves and bra cup size that probably couldn’t fit a grapefruit. Pregnancy changed all that. And then, I had to try and figure out how to dress my new new curves.

I thought the maternity store at my local shopping mall would be the answer but I was wrong.

After sifting through the racks to finally find a pair of jeans I thought would look good on my newly thick thighs, I got a heavy dose of sticker shock. What-the-what?!

I had no idea maternity clothes could be so expensive. I dropped those pants like they were hot and got out of that store. The sales associate bid me a good day but she should have told me to have a good life. I wasn’t heading back, ever!

From that moment forward I was on a mission to find reasonably priced and cute maternity clothes.

Here is what I found.

Bonus: 7  Tips to Save on Maternity Clothes

1. SHOP YOUR OWN CLOSET

A thorough examination of the contents of your closet may lead you to some large button-ups, flowy tops, loose-fitting dresses and other gems that would work perfectly for your pregnant belly.  The bonus is that you’ve already spent the money and at some point, you thought it was cute enough to buy, so it may be just your style.

2. SHOP SALES

There is no reason to buy maternity clothes at full price. Normally, purchasing quality clothing that can last you for several seasons is a great idea. Clothes are an investment. This mindset can be hard to break but unless you are planning to be pregnant again in the near future, just find pieces that are on sale or clearance that can get you through a few solid months.

3. BUY ITEMS YOU CAN WEAR POSTPARTUM

Try to buy items that you could get away with wearing postpartum. Loose-fitting blouses, quality yoga pants, stretchy pants.

4. RENT

Renting is not for everyone but it is an option. You can rent maternity clothes from Mine for Nine or Le Tote.

5. SHOP CONSIGNMENT

Local consignment shops are a great place to find unique pieces at good prices. Who knows?…You may even find some nice vintage items that can last past the large belly stage.

6. SHOP YOUR PARTNER’S CLOSET

If possible, take pieces from your partner’s closet. When I got to the point in my pregnancy when my own shirts couldn’t be buttons and even my t-shirts were tight, I took tops from my husband. He didn’t complain – because he’s a good husband (or he wasn’t up for a battle with his pregnant wife, who was carrying his child, who was kicking her bladder ;-)). Anyway, smart man.

7. SHOP DISCOUNT STORES

Stores like Marshall’s, TJMaxx, and Burlington may have exactly what you need at reasonable prices.

I know how difficult it can be finding pregnancy clothes and even postpartum clothes that are comfy and affordable. I hope this list can help you find some nice pieces, because you deserve to look and feel good during your pregnancy.
